High West Jesmond Residents’ Association (HWJRA)

High West Jesmond is the area that links Jesmond and Gosforth. It is bounded by Jesmond Dene Road to the south, Lodore Road to the west and Matthew Bank to the east. The northern end of High West Jesmond is bounded by the Little Dene and runs across to Matthew Bank encompassing a locked in area of streets that all exit on to Jesmond Dene Road or Matthew Bank.

The western side of this residential area (from Lodore Road to Honister Avenue) is served by HWJRA. This area comprises approximately 600 dwellings plus local shops on Newlands Road and Ilford Road metro station. The eastern side (bounded by Beatty Avenue and Matthew Bank) is served by the Admirals 5 Residents’ Association.

Residents in the HWJRA area are very engaged with local activity and within the last month 142 households have newly registered on the HWJRA database and have an obvious interest in being kept informed of, and influencing developments regarding the Blue House Roundabout and Jesmond Dene Road traffic proposals.

Communication with residents is via e-mail to all residents who have registered on our database, along with posting information on the local noticeboard on Newlands Road and ad hoc meetings.  As and when thought necessary, a full leaflet drop to every house in the neighbourhood is also carried out.

HWJRA is using all the above communication routes to keep people informed and seek feedback on the BHR/JDR steering group and its proposals.

  1. Hello,
I’m writing to ask a simple question. I live on newlands road opposite the park but we’ve never been sure about what that park is called. Do you know?
    Many thanks,
    Matthew

    1. Hi Matthew, it’s known as Blackies Valley to locals but is also called North Jesmond Downs on certain maps.
