Horrified by the news that Newcastle City Council was looking to encroach on the Moor in the name of traffic planning, local resident Sarah Edgar set up a petition on Change.org, the campaigning website. Her petition, “Newcastle says no to Blue House Roundabout,” helped galvanise local anger to the NCC proposals and within a month nearly 4,000 people had signed the petition.
The signatories to the petition came from across Newcastle and the North East as well as from other areas in the UK. Indeed, there was also circa 50 people from overseas who registered their concerns about the proposal.
